Looks like Alou is gone

The Tribune is reporting that the Cubs will officially decline their option on Moises Alou sometime next week.  Alou could conceivably return for a lower salary, but with the Cubs searching for speed in the outfield, that scenario is doubtful.  If we can get Sammy shipped off without having to pay the bulk of his salary, I’d say the Cubs would have a legitimate shot of acquiring Carlos Beltran.  It all depends on Beltran’s primary motivations, though.  (We know the Yanks will spend BIG time after their debacle.)
