Sigh!

John McCain is now trying to say that President Bush said that the conflict in Iraq would be “some kind of day at the beach.” McCain blames Bush for not actually telling people how difficult the task is. Now, the last time I checked, armed conflict is inherently difficult. If people are smart, they don’t need to be explicitly told that the Iraq war or the Afghan war or any other conflict is difficult, because they can figure it out on their own. I also remember that the president has always said that the fight would be difficult, so McCain’s charges against the administration are utterly baseless. If there is anything to blame, it is the people’s reluctance to acknowledge that armed conflict is difficult, not anything Bush or his administration has said.
